Last Friday night the PLC Norman Oval was abuzz with celebrations and festivities for our annual Twilight Picnic. A wonderful and happy crowd of people joined in the celebrations, enjoying a beautiful summer evening, with delicious food, lots of fun rides, face painting, a photo booth, entertaining music, our talented Year 8 dancers and entertainment from a wonderful staff band. With so much for us all to enjoy, the evening had something special for all age groups, from our littlest children in the ELC through to our teenage girls and parents, and family and friends of PLC.

The GSV Swimming and Diving Teams participated in the GSV Preliminary B Finals last week with some outstanding results and TWO Trophies for Team PLC.

Our PLC Swim Team came 2nd overall, qualifying for the Division 1 Championships. The PLC Dive Team came 3rd overall and have qualified for the Division 2 Championships.

We also unveiled the new PLC swim uniforms and were awarded 'the best dressed' team award!

This week the girls in Year 10 engaged in a very special Q & A session with two guest Old Collegian speakers – Catherine Phillips and Emily Cheung.  It was all part of our week-long Year 10 Bright Stars program at PLC.
 
This program assists girls in their transition to the senior years at PLC. Through a series of carefully considered and planned activities, the program aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to support their long-term personal health and wellbeing, and maximise their academic potential.

In March, the PLC Pipes and Drums competed at the Ballarat Highland Gathering playing in the Juvenile and Grade 4 marches events. They placed third in both and won the Piping in the marches.  Congratulations to the girls and their teachers!

The girls have now been back at school for nearly four weeks and are now very much into the rhythm of school life. The main focus for the girls has been our wonderful House Concerts but it has also been a very busy start for parents and staff with Information Evenings for most year levels. The Year 10 Evening is still to come with their special Bright Stars Evening for parents and girls to mark the beginning of the girls’ senior years to be held on Tuesday 7 March.

On Sunday 19 February PLC competed at the GSV Triathlon finals with Tazmin (Year 11), Jordyn (Year 9) and Emma placing 3rd 19th and 21st out of 47 competitors.

This is an outstanding achievement, especially in poor weather conditions.

Congratulations to these girls and the entire PLC Triathlon team.

Congratulations to the Smithson sisters for their recent outstanding achievements in swimming.

Danielle became the State Champion for the 100m Breaststroke at the Victorian Age Championships recently and in December competed in the Victorian Open Water Championships and won the 15 Year Old 5km event.  

Danielle then competed in the South Australian State Swimming Championships, winning two events, placing second in three events and third in one event, in her age group, and is the State Champion in the Open Age 50m Breaststroke.

Year 7 student, Charlotte Jones, won a gold medal in Judo in the Under 15's Division at the ACT International Open in Canberra over the weekend.

Congratulations to Charlotte on this incredible result and we wish her all the best for her next competition in 2 weeks time.

I would like to wish all our PLC families a very warm welcome back to school for the 2017 school year, and to also especially offer a warm welcome to all our new families and girls who are starting at PLC this year.

We couldn’t be prouder of our outstanding Class of 2016.

Four girls achieved a perfect ATAR of 99.95, our median ATAR for all Year 12 students was 94.90 and 15 percent of our IB cohort achieved an ATAR of 99.85+ which places them in the top 0.15% of students in Australia.

Additionally, our 2016 School and Vice Captains each achieved a 45 in the IB which equates to the perfect 99.95!

Year 12 PLC student Nandini, was announced as the Zonta Club winner of the 2016 Young Women in Public Affairs award.

In December, our girls became the National Chess Champions at the 2016 Australian Schools’ Teams Championships (Girls secondary).
